About LanQua

LanQua helps learners, teachers and independent tutors turn language-learning research into practical routines, with AI supporting the preparation and personalisation.

The starting point

We focus first on vocabulary retention: choosing useful words, practising recall, making better flashcards and returning to material after a gap. The method is intended to be adaptable across languages. A worked example in English or French illustrates the routine rather than defining the whole publication.

What AI adds

AI can draft relevant clues, examples and practice questions, or help organise a learner’s error log. The learner or teacher still checks the language, selects the task and evaluates what can be done independently. We do not describe a chatbot as a substitute for teaching judgment.

How the guides are prepared

Our current guides are prepared with AI assistance and link to primary research where they discuss findings. We distinguish the participants and methods studied from practical routines a reader can try. We do not claim that a prompt has been scientifically validated merely because it draws on a research principle.

The historical LanQua project

The original Language Network for Quality Assurance ran from 2007 to 2010. Its themes included language learning, teacher education, CLIL, intercultural communication, and literature and culture in higher education. The historical themes and resource pages remain available alongside the new guides.

Today’s LanQua.eu is an independent publication operated by Interwebs Ltd. It is not operated or endorsed by the former consortium, the University of Southampton, the European Commission or former project partners. Read the historical introduction.
